From Fran

Hi everyone.
It\'s hard to believe that we leave for the U.K. in exactly a week from today to attempt the Channel crossing again. For those of you who would like to follow Hugh\'s progress you can log onto: www.hughtucker.co.za
If you experience any difficulty then you can go into google and just type in hugh tucker. His web page details come up first.
Hold thumbs for us and pray for the water temp to rise - it\'s rather chilly at present. His window period for the swim is between the 5th and 15th August.2004
We have also very kindly been invited to spend a week Island hopping in Croatia by very good friends of ours after the swim. Really looking forward to both adventures!!
Lots of love. Hugh and Fran.

From Hugh

Thirty two years to complete a successful channel swim after five attempts.

The story starts in 1972 with my first attempt and another two tries all resulting in failure. In 2002 decide to take on the monster again.Trained very hard with Crowther and Dickerson and set off in 2003 to swim. This led to the fourth failure.Fran and I decided to train some more and give it another go in 2004.

The Story has a wonderful ending as yesterday I managed to complete the swim in 13 hours 37 minutes. This was made possible because of a wonderful back up team. Please go to photo section and it will tell the whole story and the 7 min video clip that gives real imagery of the conditions.

The team consists of Fran Tucker my wife,Trevor Tucker,Dion Woodburne,Donald Robertson this was the dream team.Fran and Dion took turns swimming every alternate hour. This turned out to be Dions and Frans longest swim of about 20 kms each.Donald and Trevor fed me every half hour.

When I arrived in France tears flowed as it had taken so long to complete a dream. They were tears of joy.It was also the end of an extreme character building day and to say that Fran and I are over the moon is an understatement.Fran and Dions story follows.
